Literacy and basic magical ability were two things that Emperor Cryn I felt were important to bring to the common folk. To this end, he established basic teaching positions in Imperial Humanist temples, where people were welcome to learn the hornbook (the alphabet, the Imperial Oath, and the Humanist Creed) and a cantrip or two.

Through organized use of magic, hunger in cities and towns has been virtually eliminated. This is mainly through the use of goodberries (which are transported in repose-lockers) and created water. Some people donate any rotten food for purification to the Imperial temples, and very rich locations use create food and water spells. All of these spells are available at “altars of bounty” in established imperial temples.
