As the party flees eastward, the merits of either investigating the Fire Mountain Giants and Salamanders machinations or sailing on to the Necropolis are discussed. Their bivouac that night is uninterrupted. The fleet and all hands are missing when the party reaches the oasis. Signs of a struggle and the remains of harpies are discovered. Chesty launches into the air to look for survivors. GaksFinger follows on foot devotedly. Eventually he finds the three sand ships, guarded by a pair of harpies. Chesty blinds one as the other coos warmly at him. Chesty is enthralled for a moment, then another. As he lifts a foot to step towards his new found lover, a familiar stench wafts to this nostril on the wind. A gag and a cough shakes the enchantment, he lifts his eyes and over the harpy’s shoulder he sees the lumbering bulk of GaksFinger bearing down on the scene. His vigor reignited, Chesty Puller charms the sighted harpy. GaksFinger pummels the blinded harpy then throttles the charmed harpy at Chety’s urging. Their deaths end the crews’ beguiling.
The fleet returns to the Oasis allowing the party a safe rest for the rest of the day. The captains report four crewmen were lost to the Harpies. Chesty Puller, Jorl Benthral and Stohagan Wisedrifter spend the afternoon cramped in Gaul’s cabin huddled over his writing desk comparing passages in their various spell books. That evening the fleet sails to a spire of rock Chesty Fuller noticed during his harpy fight. The fleet is greeted by singing Harpy’s. Canis Mallory, Gaul Stonedog and a handful of sand vikings are enthralled by the song and proceed on foot towards the rock spire. The unaffected launch into action. Campion Renalan prays for the Justice Maker’s blessing. Dinkgus Fastcrank counters the singing with an audible illusion of a loud breeze, freeing the minds of the enthralled. Jorl Benthral conjures strands of web to hold the enthralled in place. His spell fixes Canis Mallory and the Sand Vikings. Seeing their chances diminishing, the Harpy’s attempt to fly away. Jorl Benthral’s arrows fell a Harpy as Dingkus stuns two out of the sky. As the harpy lair is looted for more coins, the stun harpies are bound, gagged and held with the chickens in the Sandwhich hold.
The following morning Gaul Stonedog sacrifices a harpy and a necklace, the Gaze above reveals to him that the Necropolis contains rich treasure which is guarded by hundreds of foes and that we would likely anger a power when we raid it. Eagerly we sail the fleet southwest to the Necropolis. After a morning of sailing, we find ruins. The ruins appear to an outpost or fort renovated into some sort of mausoleum. The fleets pulls up to the ruin, where the party disembarks. Gaul throws the bones. They call for easy riches. Elated, Gaul announces their good fortune and enters the mausoleum with Dingkus slinking in by his side. This triggers an ambush. We are flanked by three half women-half cloven hoofed beasts within the mausoleum and a pair of trolls between the party and the fleet. Violence erupts! Campion Renalan prays for good fortune. Canis Mallory rushes into the tomb, Desert Thorn business end first. Chesty Fuller drops a wall of ice onto the trolls. Dinkgus Fastcrank fans a color spray at the Lamias in the tomb. Gaul Stonedog and Radan Brightflame charge the trolls behind the party. Jorl Benthral makes himself invisible and slinks into the tomb. As blows are made and spells strike victims, opponents seem to puff away or disappear into thin air. Also, Canis Mallory is charmed by what we learn was a single Lamia using illusions and mirror images to distract our attacks. Canis Mallory and GaksFinger exchange blows as Canis defends the Lamia from the party. An enlarged and invisible Jorl Benthral strikes the lamia dead. We loot the tomb, finding 6,000 gold coins.
According to Chesty
We become visible, still on the fly, we continue heading to the ship. We are forced to camp when it gets too dark, we arrive at the oasis that we left the ships at to find…….no ships.
Harpy bodies,….I fly up to see where the ships have gone
I fly around to follow the ships, the crew is acting strangely and it occurs to me that maybe not all of the harpies died, so I cast invisibility, fly behind the Harpys (they had just finished someone) I cast Slow, then Blinded one with light, then Charmed the remaining one. While I was trying to decide what to do with the Harpies, Grak showed up. I had him eat the blinded Harpy, and when the other Harpy came down to us I hit her with Magic Missiles Grak killed and ate her. All in all it was a good time. I then sent the Sandwitch back to pick up the party. They have returned and we all took some much needed rest, and studied our various crafts.
The next day we Identified some of the magic items we have, and decided to try to find where the Harpies had laired, we should have figured that the greedy bitches wouldn’t bring all their folk in for a feast. They also were poor. But at leaste we don’t have to deal with them after this. Gaul kept two to sacrifice to his dark Powers. He says he learned something, but I think he just likes killing and burning them. We head towards the Necropolis, we saw a small ruin, and decided to investigate. Despite originally thinking that it was several Lamias and a few Trolls, I believe it turned out to be just one Lamia, which I fed to Grak. Grak seems to be very useful, and he didn’t eat Canis when Canis was charmed. The Lamia was sitting on a fair amount of Gold, so…..hurray
