Recap June 28, 2019

They had just really sat down when Thoravil heard a noise above them and saw McKenzie letting go of one of the rafters. Laughing as she fell, Thoravil cushioned her fall. They all ordered a round for everyone and then caught McKenzie up on what had happened. She wanted to find Droop. They were not sure where he was. They then decided it was time to use the Orb of Time to back a year and 10 tendays, well before the Draakhorn had ever sounded. They would then see about contacting Flynrich to see about using his plane as a staging area for their plan. They would use Wish to have all of the Dragon Masks. Then they would hide the masks on different planes. They had had some issues contacting Flynrich even before Tiamat’s return. The decided to use the Orb of Time to go to the Emerald Enclave, a place that several of them had been to at least a few times.

They arrived in the middle of the Emerald Enclave grove. They were getting strange looks but they presented their Emerald Enclave pins. They were then led into a large tree and down into a large room. At the far end of the room there sat an old elf woman. She welcomed them and then asked how did they come to arrive in the Time Grove. She explained that there was a section of the Emerald Enclave that focused on time travel but they were dedicated to keeping it secret. Mason said yes and that he knew Him when he was younger and had Time Traveled with Him. The elf studied him for a minute and then said Mason, welcome back to the grove. The rest of the group gave him looks like wait you knew of time travel all along but you didn’t tell us? He must have known what they were thinking as he said, I was promised to keep it a secret.

Mason started but the whole group told the story of Tiamat and how she had been brought back and they had all died. Then they had been resurrected a year later and went to find the Orb of Time at the Tomb of Horrors. The elf told them never to speak Acererak’s name in the Grove. She then said, you are aware of the dangers of using an item from his tomb. They said yes but that the world was depending on what they did. She so go and good luck with your quest.

They then took out the screen and called on Flynrich. Nameless saw Mattwise and asked him to get Flynrich. Stopping in his track, Mattwise said, didn’t you all just leave.

Flyrich knew something was up so he was not surprised when they told him their story. He then brought out a box and said this was given to me to give to you once you arrived. Inside was the Blue Dragon Mask they had hidden a way. Flynrich agreed to their plan. He also said that he could open a portal to the Elemental Plane of Fire so they could release the genie back on his home plane.

They set things up and used their second wish to ask for all of the dragon mask of this time.

They suddenly had 7 masks; red, white, black, two green and two blue.

They then asked Flyrich to open up a portal to the Elemental Plane of Fire. He did and they walked onto the plane and called the efreeti. The efreeti saw where he was and looked to them saying you really are going to do it. They said yes and then made the wish to set him free. Suddenly a 9ff plus efreeti covered in flames stood before them. They could see off in the distance the City of brass behind him. They asked him what he will do now. I will go home to see my wife and kids. Its only been 1000 years. He gave a small laugh then bid them fare well. Then he said wait. Here is my business card. This entitles you to one more Wish. This one is on me, and not from the Fates. He then faded into a swirl of smoke and headed off to the City of Brass.

Back at Flynrich’s it was easy to tell the fake green mask from the real green mask. The fake green only had water walking and resistance to acid.

The real dragon masks all had the following:

Each dragon mask is a legendary wondrous item that reshapes to fit the face and head of a wearer attuned to it. While you are wearing any dragon mask and attuned to it, you gain the following benefits.

Damage Absorption. You have resistance against the mask’s damage type. If you already have resistance to that damage type from another source, you instead have immunity to that damage type. If you already have immunity to that damage type from another source, whenever you are subjected to damage of that type, you take none of that damage and regain a number of hit points equal to half the damage dealt of that type.

Draconic Majesty. While you are wearing no armor, you can add your Charisma bonus to your Armor Class.

Dragon Breath. If you have a breath weapon that requires rest to recharge, it gains a recharge of 6.

Dragon Sight. You gain darkvision out to 60 feet, or to an additional 60 feet if you already have that sense. Once per day, you can gain blindsight out to 30 feet for 5 minutes.

Dragon Tongue. You can speak and understand Draconic. You also have advantage on any Charisma check you make against dragons that share the mask’s color.

Legendary Resistance (1/Day). If you fail a saving throw, you can choose to succeed instead.

Each mask had their own abilities as well:

Green Dragon Mask

Wondrous item, legendary (requires attunement)

This mottled green mask is surmounted by a frilled crest and has leathery spiked plates along its jaw. While you wear the mask, you gain the following benefits, in addition to those the dragon masks share.

Damage Type. The mask’s damage type is poison.

Water Breathing. You can breathe underwater.

They noticed that the masks were attracted to one another. Nameless put on the real green one. The masks started to move towards him. They did some more experiments but did not get far. Thalaniel asked his patron about the masks. She said that you could combine them. McKenzie was not sure that was a good idea. Just because you can do something doesn’t mean that you should. Mason contacted Bahamut who was pleased to learn that they had all the masks. He said they should be destroyed. You should learn how to do that once you combine them and then one of you puts on the Mask of the Dragon Queen. They decided that Nameless should do the honors. As soon as they Mask of the Dragon Queen he saw the masks full powers:

While you are attuned to and wear this mask, you can have any of the properties from any one mask. Additionally, you gain the Damage Absorption from each of the five dragon masks, and you gain five uses of the Legendary Resistance property.

Once per day, you can gain blind sight out to 30 feet for 5 minutes.

Dragon Tongue. You can speak and understand Draconic. You also have advantage on any Charisma check you make against dragons that share the mask’s color.

Legendary Resistance (1/Day). If you fail a saving throw, you can choose to succeed instead.

Burning Touch. Melee Spell Attack: your spell attack bonus to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: (4d8) fire damage. Flaming Orb. Ranged Spell Attack: your spell attack bonu to hit, range 90 ft., one target. Hit: (9d8) fire damage. Scorching Burst. You choose a point you can see within 60 feet of him. Each creature within 5 feet of that point must make a DC 17 Dexterity saving throw, taking 4d8 fire damage on a failed save, or half as much damage on a successful one.

mask

Nameless felt the power of the mask and it felt really good.

He also saw how to destroy the mask and masks and he knew if the Mask of the Dragon Queen was destroyed, that the ritual could not happen.

•(Cleric of Bahamut) Cast Dispel Evil and Good on the Mask

•(Gold Dragon) Deal 70 points of fire damage in one action

•(Silver Dragon) Deal 60 points of cold damage in one action

•(Bronze Dragon) Deal 70 points of lightning damage in one action

•(Copper Dragon) Deal 60 points of acid damage in one action

•(Brass Dragon) Deal 50 points of fire damage in one action

•(Cleric of Bahamut) Cast Divine Word on the Mask

•(Cleric of Bahamut) Deal 10 points of damage from a DragonSlayer, or any magical bludgeoning weapon.

Each dragon can attempt its effort multiple times, as long as the dispel evil and good is in effect. Likewise the divine word, and the physical damage. If the dispel evil and good reaches its maximum duration before all the steps have been completed, the process must start over.

Mason could cast the spells but they would need the Dragon Council. The Council was impressed that they had the masks and even more so that they were going to destroy it. They agreed.

It took a few tries but soon the masks were turned into a small multicolored ball of pig iron.

They were going to destroy the Well of Dragons. The Dragon Council did not like it as they too had used it as a burial place but many dracoliches had been formed there so they understood. The group decided not to destroy it. Instead they went there to rescue the humanoid sacrifices. When they got there they saw that some of the hostages had rebelled against their captives. The others were eager to be released. They saved many of the captives and assisted them on their way back home.

Then they went back to Waterdeep and to the Yawning Portal and ordered another round of drinks.

15 minutes later three cloaked and hooded figures walked into the Yawning Portal. They asked Durnan something and he pointed over to the table that the group was sitting at. The cloaked figures walked over to them. The one in the center through back her hood and it was Lady Laeral. She spoke:

I received this letter. It seems the city of Waterdeep and the entire sword coast owes you a great deal, in fact owes you their lives. The letter told her of what had happened in the future and that these folks had come back in time correct their mistakes. She said I trust this person who sent this with my life so I believe them. In light of all of this, things are not finished. Inside the Well of Dragons we found several documents, such as decoded letters, orders and maps, that have been laid out on the writing desk that belonged to the room’s former occupant, Severin Silrajin, leader of the Cult of the Dragon. From the documents we have concluded: Severin maintained a base in his home city of Calimport. After Tiamat’s rise, he intended to be the Dragon Queen’s human agent from there, relying on the city-state’s unscathed riches to bolster his position. His stronghold is a dungeon beneath the palace of the Red Pasha, a popular leader in the city. Nothing indicates that the Red Pasha himself is an ally of the cult. Many of the documents are orders to send teachers in cult lore and skilled warriors to the stronghold, essentially setting up a cell that will serve as an academy for cult teachings. Notations indicate that many cultists serving at the Well of Dragons got their start in Calimport. Access to the dungeons was done secretly, with supplicants aided by conspirators within the Pasha’s household who leads them to a grand staircase within the palace.

Laeral says you must infiltrate the cult stronghold in Calimport and disrupt any plans carried out by Severin’s remaining lieutenants. I will provide credentials so you can present yourselves as emissaries from the Lord’s Alliance, which should gain you entry to the Palace of the Red Pasha. From there, the mission rests entirely on you. They looked at each other and said yes. Let us prepare and then we will go. She said there is no rush. They are not expecting anyone. Also, when you are ready, I have an item for your journey. One is a teleportation scroll that will take you to the borders of Calishan. There you can use this 6 by 9 feet Carpet of Flying with a capacity of 800 pounds. I only ask that it be returned to the Lords’ Alliance once your are finished with it.

They thanked her and then everyone drew cards from the Deck of Many things that they had Wished did not have the bad cards in it.
